Re: No Good Reason's Not to wear Your Seatbelt

I agree with Pvfan. The only life you endanger by not wearing your seatbelt is your own. If you choose not to wear a seatbelt, that is your own choice. Most other laws are designed to protect others. Speed limits are designed to protect yourself and the other drivers on the road.

The government telling me to wear my seatbelt is like the government telling me I can't run in my own house with a knife or scissors.

Re: No Good Reason's Not to wear Your Seatbelt

As I mentioned before not wearing your seatbelt could cause a secondery crash (If you are dislauged from your drivers seat and therfore unable to controle your vehicle and hit a second car) this does happen and would be affecting someone else

I will admit there is times i forget to put mine on. But it is rare, even as a passenger. Seen two many accidents where the belt wasn't worn.
And a few bodies through windshields, on hoods, and well those who get tossed, only way you know is after you look for a few to find them.
One recent accident where i helped out. The car hydroplaned. Nothing the driver did wrong. Tried to drive through it and ease on to the brakes, it caused the car to go into a spin.
Ended up hitting a ditch at 45-50 miles an hour. Had the person not had on their seat belt, they probably would not be here today.
People who were standing by and seen the accident said, the drivers whole upper body come forward but the seat belt pulled them back, just before they made impact with the ditch.
Like i said i sometimes forget but 8 or 9 times out of 10 i buckle up. One thing it's the law and well now it's easily enforeable.
Biggest thing is safety for myself and my i guess my own peace of mind. But as i usually say to each their own.

This sounds just like my accident during the summer on Wise Mt. If I wouldn't have had my seat belt on i hit the dtich so hard i would have went through my drivers side window. My seat belt held me in place...yeah i had some pretty bad bruises on my neck and shoulder and hips and was a lil jarred but it was a hell of a lot better then being thrown from my car. I would advice any person to buckle and make their passengers buckle as well.
That is probably one thing in this world that urks me and that is parents holding their newborns in their laps while in the front seat. (well holding period) They should be in a car seat. I mean could you as a parent imagine having your baby thrown from the car or even smashed in between you and the dash. People don't think about these things.
I have a chi-hua-hua-hua and it has no teeth-teeth-teeth.

Re: No Good Reason's Not to wear Your Seatbelt

with the Big Ben debate going on and my post over there about Ben's choice of not wearing a helmet is the same as someone not wearing a seatbelt. what if it was Peyton Manning that was in an accident and not wearing a seatbelt, would there be the same debate going around? Dumb, stupid, shouldn't get paid, hurt his team???
just something to think about

It's the same deal if I get in a car wreck and cant go to work for a couple weeks or months. Not going to get paid unless I've got AFLAC. Big Ben needs Aflac!

Speed limits are to keep nuts from flying all over the place like superman to reach everywhere they want to go. They don't keep you from being killed, because you can be going at slower speeds than what you'd think (30-40 mph) and still get messed up if you aren't careful. My mom is a paramedic and has seen plenty of brutal wrecks - including a decapitation caused by one - so believe me, I know from some of the things she's told me. It depends on where you're hit, too. If someone hits you directly from the side, it causes your neck to move into an unnatural position and could easily be fatal.

To say that you shouldn't have to wear your seatbelt if you don't want to is simply asinine. It sounds like something a first-grader would be saying, not somebody old enough to know what dangers a high-speed piece of machinery can represent.

What are you going to complain about next? Having to attend school?

Just my $0.02. If you don't like it, that's fine, but I'll continue to wear my seatbelt in order to increase my chances - even if by a small amount - of surviving a car crash. Better safe than sorry.

Its all a money making racket anyway, How come 50 million kids can ride the school bus twice a day and not wear them? Makes absolutely no sense.

Re: No Good Reason's Not to wear Your Seatbelt

School age childern are that, children. By the time most people get the right to drive a vehicle they are adults or old enough to quit school. If your old enough to drive your old enough to decide if you want to wear a seatbelt or not, I'm not wearing mine. It's just another way the government can get money off writing tickets and is pushed by these groups who continually approve of more government involvement in our daily lifes.
